So… you did the thing.
You booked a massage at WAY Wellness Center—whether it was out of necessity (hi, stubborn neck tension) or as an act of self-care (well done). Either way, you're in good hands now. Literally.
But before you hop onto the table and hope for miracles (they do happen here, by the way), let’s set you up for the best possible experience. Because massage therapy isn't just about feeling good in the moment—it’s about creating lasting change in how your body feels, functions, and heals.
Here’s what to know, what to expect, and how to turn your appointment into something that supports your wellness long after you leave.
1. Know What You’re Getting Into (In the Best Way)
At our Pittsburgh wellness center, we offer a whole lot more than a basic massage. From traditional Swedish and deep tissue to more specialized options like craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, integrative bodywork, and fertility support massage, every session is intentionally tailored to you.
Whether you’re:
- Managing chronic migraines
- Healing from surgery or injury
- Pregnant or postpartum
- Looking to balance your nervous system
- Or just trying to shake off the stress you’ve been carrying
We’ve got a therapist—and an approach—that meets you where you are.
Not sure what you need? Just ask when you book. We’ll help you sort it out and find the right fit.
2. Be Early (Not Just On Time)
Give yourself a buffer. Rushing into your appointment right on the dot with your shoulders up by your ears and a to-do list still running in your mind? Not ideal. Aim to arrive about 10 minutes early so you can breathe, use the restroom, and start transitioning into a more relaxed state before your session even begins.
3. Let Go of “Doing It Right”
This is your time. There’s no one way to receive a massage. You can talk or stay quiet. You can ask questions or zone out. You don’t have to shave your legs. You don’t have to explain your life story. You can give feedback—or simply breathe and be.
You can even fall asleep and snore a little. We consider that a compliment.
4. Not All Massage Feels the Same—And That’s the Point
If you're scheduled with Dan Gehret for integrative bodywork, your experience may feel very different from a traditional massage. There’s typically less pressure, less movement, and more stillness—and yet, there’s often a deeper shift happening under the surface.
Dan’s approach is designed to work with your body’s own healing intelligence. This gentle, highly customized therapy can support a wide range of concerns—everything from post-concussion symptoms and chronic fatigue to pelvic pain, brain fog, and joint instability. It may feel subtle during the session, but the effects are often profound.
5. Want the Full Body Upgrade? Opt for 90 or 120 Minutes
Some things just take more time. If your body’s been through a lot or you simply want the most thorough experience possible, booking a 90- or 120-minute session gives us the space to address more areas, more deeply.
Our Illumine Bodywork Sessions, offered exclusively by Roxanne Williams, LMT, are designed with this in mind. These extended sessions combine full-body massage with stretching, corrective movement, energy work, and Reiki. Clients remain fully clothed for most of the session (except during massage portions) and work may take place on a mat or massage table depending on your needs.
It’s like massage meets movement therapy meets deep restoration—and it’s one of the most complete sessions we offer.
6. Aftercare Matters More Than You Think
Once your session ends, the work continues. Give your body space to integrate. That might mean a quiet evening, an Epsom salt bath, a nourishing meal, or simply some extra sleep. Try not to book a back-to-back schedule if you can help it. The more you support your system after the session, the more benefit you’ll get from the work.
And here’s a pro tip: if you’re working through chronic issues or trying to maintain the progress you’ve already made, rebooking sooner rather than later helps build momentum. Regular massage isn’t a luxury- it’s a strategy. Whether you’re coming weekly, monthly, or seasonally, having a rhythm helps your body know what to expect—and how to keep healing between sessions.
